pennedportraits:

It poured out,
slipping through
my grasp like
the pink-slippered
arc of a neck
I could not catch.

I remember
the sigh — the slow
parting of your lips
when you unwound
to take off
the old life.

I wanted to be anchored
down by hands
soft and sweet,
but you let go and I felt
nothing for so long until
there was nothing left,
but to drop into
the ache of it all.

pennedportraits:

And I crave you still,
having long gone empty
of my sickness for you.
The world poured in,
shiny faces floating up
like delicate paper moons,
but I could not sew up
the fast fist rips inside
that ate me up like flames.
I am a sunken woman, indeed.
Can’t you see?
There is an expected hardness
where my heart used to be.
